Week in Review: February 21st - 25th

Mitch - Quality Control Manager:

Sunday’s blizzard that poured over into Monday caused a slow start to the week due to extreme traffic! We started out in West St Paul at a new apartment complex we started cleaning their common areas and laundry rooms. The cleaning went great and before we were able to start we were able to help to of the residents get their cars out after being plowed in from the plow trucks. We have cleaned there twice this week and both have went very well with our great contractor, cleaners, and Engelo on site as a full time supervisor to make sure all the work is properly completed.

We wrapped up a painting job at a production plant this week. We ended up painting their showers and covering them with a coat of epoxy to protect the paint from steam, water, soap and anything else that could damage the paint in those areas. There were 3 sound control rooms that we also painted and they look much better. Part of the project was removing things off the wall for the customer, removing bench in each room that was secured from the wall and moving some big desks away from the wall to be able to fully complete the scope. All in all it was a great job and we were happy to see the customer get the upgrade to their work space.

One more new account starting off on Friday at a large apartment complex. As I mentioned in last weeks post the crew is all geared up with proper equipment and ready to take off. This is a 7 day a week account and we owe some thanks to Engelo for stepping up and being a part of the clean on the weekend to make sure that we complete the scope properly.

No major plans this weekend aside from some small painting projects and prep work for the upcoming work we will be doing for trim and doors. Hopefully we will get a chance to grab some dinner with Engelo and Melanie and throw a bowling ball down the lane. Otherwise it will be a quiet weekend for me. 6 days until I head to vacation in Phoenix and can’t wait to enjoy the sun and spend time with my nephew, sister, and brother in law.

City Wide Tips: Prepping Your Windows For Spring

Like most things in life, investing in the routine maintenance of your building can lower large, long term expenses. Your windows fall nicely into the same category.

When looking into the best options for your building's windows its important to consider a few key factors:

1. Picking a company that adheres to OSHA safety standards

2. Having a plan for your windows that fits your needs and your budget

Check out this month's video on tips for helping you determine how best to facilitate the needs of your building, just in time for Spring cleaning!

At City Wide, we have both; OSHA trained crews and the ability to create a plan for you that maximizes your allocated funds. Contact us today with any questions regarding window washing or any other building maintenance need!

Week in Review: February 14th - 18th

Greg - President:
It's been another busy week here at City Wide-- just how we like it :-) We are al REALLY enjoying the nice, warm spring-like weather that the Twin Cities have gotten this week. Even though we all know that winter is still here-- in fact, we're supposed to get some serious snow this Sunday. Have your snow shovels ready!

Among normal responsibilities, I met with several new potential clients regarding janitorial services and  regular maintenance issue-- including truck washing on a regular basis for a freight company! If that isn't a testimate to how City Wide can do it all, I'm not sure what is! We are in the business of Building Maintenance Solutions and can do it all.

We also got verbal agreemtn that we will be a single source provider for all facilities issues for a local non-profit with 30+ locations metro wide. We are VERY excited to partner on with them for daily maintenance issues and after hours emergencies.

On a personal note, I'm excited for Daytona 500 this weekend. It will be fun to watch as once attended a live race, you gain a new perspective for the race. City Wide in Kansas City services the Kansas Speedway in both the evening June race and Septemeber race.

Mitch - Quality Control Manager:
Its been another fun filled week here in the south territory. We did a daytime strip and wax at a facility on Monday that is normally shut down so we had wide open access to get it all done. What a major imporovement for the client and I am kicking myself for not bringing a camera to take pictures! This tile had 3 foot wide dirt paths from traffic patterns and after stripping the floor down we bleached the floors in those areas and scrubbed again finding the tile’s natural color again. The customer was extremely pleased and after cleaning up the baseboards they look nearly like new and the floor has a great shine and is much easier to maintain this whole week.

Ice dam removal is one of our newest services and this week we were able to clear some snow off the roof and open up 18 ice dams at one of our properties in Eden Prairie which took 3-4 days, we estimated approximately 88 hours and were able to get it done in less than 75 which the customer greatly appreciated. Now their parking lot is like a river with all the water being able to properly melt down through the downspouts. In the middle of that job another customer of Tyler’s called him out for some emergency roof removal to open up their drainage system which brought an abrupt end to a interior leak from the roof.

Getting lined up for a new day clean contract in the Burnsville area starting later this month, we will have 2-3 cleaners daily doing daytime and some night work. Later in spring and summer they will cut out the night work in exchange for some parking lot and grounds maintenance policing. This is an extension of business from one of our current satisfied clients and we are very happy to get this going with them. A lot of work and energy going into this one up front to get uniforms, the right people, new backpack vacuums etc. in line prior to the start off.

This weekend shall be a busy one for me. I have about 7-10 jobs to get done over the next few weekends and in early March we are getting all new trim, window framing, baseboards, and crown molding installed throughout our house! Also we took advantage of an incredible price at Menards on new doors for the interior of the house and those will all be getting done. This is the first major project we have undergone in our new home that we bought in June as a short sale. The majority of the work needed was minor maintained items and a major painting amount to get it livable. As of now we are on the way to really making it the way we like it and are excited for the process moving forward.

Aside from that here at City Wide Greg, Kelly, myself and a number of other friends and businesses we work for are signed up for the Warrior Dash and its a "3.02 Hellish miles" course in Afton MN! We signed up for it this week and we're all SUPER excited!

Week in Review: February 7th - 11th

Mitch - Quality Control Manager:

It has been a busy couple weeks after wrapping up 3 new starts throughout the first week and the early part of this week. We started working at some ice dam removal for one of our oldest customers, they have significant ice build up in the run off gutters on the side of their two story building. We were held of on the main part of the start due to the temperatures, as the water melts it refreezes 3-5 feet down ultimately resulting in more work so we will hold off until the weekend to continue. We will also likely be removing snow and ice from the first 6 feet around the perimeter of the roof to allow free flow of the remaining snow to melt and make its way to the runoffs.

Next week Monday we will be strip and waxing a new client of ours that we just got started working with. They are a hub for delivery services so there is a lot of dirt, mud, salt, and slush coming into the building from out in their dock area making it difficult to keep the floors clean. During the strip process we will spend some extra time cleaning up the baseboards which have wax and mop marks all over them and also use bleach in some areas that have heavy dirt traffic areas to try and lighten the tile back up to its original color. Also we invested in a ride on machine to pickup water in the dock and scrub the floors as part of the daily routine contract.

In the next couple weeks we will begin working on our quarterly in contract floor care solutions for two of our group customers, one set is Dialysis and the other an adult day care center. This is one item we do for these clients that we make great efforts to coordinate the work properly and get it done on time as the have had trouble with their old vendors not getting the work done within the proper times. We have been very good at keeping them on track with their quarterly care and the customer appreciates that.

This weekend my buddy Jay and his fiancĂ© are coming to stay at our house. Jay is an old manager of mine who I worked side by side with when we both ended up as managers at my old company. These are the friends I hunt with up in the Thief River Falls area so we don’t see them all that often so its nice to have them down here. We have a good group of old work friends and other friends coming over for a Friday night hangout with food, fire in the fireplace. We are counting on a whole group of people to come over that I haven’t seen in years.

Week In Review: January 31st - February 4th

Shalee - Administration Manager

My oh my - how time flies when you're having lots and lots to do!  We've been working like crazy on a new marketing plan, ironing out the wrinkles so that it will be smooth and flawless in the coming weeks.  That makes it easier not only for us, but for our potential customers too.

I sure hope that you will enjoy the sticky notes coming your way and will keep us in mind when contracts end.  We would love to show everyone how City Wide Maintenance really is a standout in the crowd.

On a personal note, our daughter is heading up to Duluth for Spiritfest, a teen weekend that involves skiing, devotionals, time with friends from all over the state and copious amounts of hot chocolate.  I'm really hoping that the ski patrol won't be called into rescue her this time... Hey, we're still newbies at this whole snow thing!  :)

I'm looking forward to the upcoming Super Bowl weekend between the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburg Steelers.  (I hope that GB pulls it off, mainly because it's been years since they've gotten new bling.  The Steelers?  Been there, done that recently.)

Oh and do you really want to impress your Super Bowl guests?  Share with them this tidbit over the guacamole and potato skins:

Do you know what the "G" stands for on the Green Bay Packers helmets?  Green Bay? (wrong)  Guys in football uniforms? (wrong)  G Brett Favre? (wrong)  Gravy? (wrong)

The "G" stands for GREATNESS.  I think that's an awesome morsel to use to impress many football know-it-alls.  It's your time to shine, so use it wisely and in a large crowd.  You're welcome.  :)

And finally, I love this Super Bowl commercial! I think it's very "forceful"... :)

Tyler - Quality Control Manager:
It’s been a hectic past couple weeks with the added snow and havoc it’s caused on tile/marble floors! It’s taking some extra attention and cleaning with rinsing agents to help keep streakiness and haziness removed from tile floors. I know it’s been one of the craziest winters on records for quite a while. With that said, snow removal has been another great opportunity for us and thus far I’ve had great success with the crews we have set in place.

Since my last post, we’ve welcomed a few new customers to the City Wide stable. We’re excited to show these clients some proven results through talented crews to an excellent management structure set in place. We’ve already performed some extra charge projects for these customers including a tile grout cleaning, tile waxing, and a deck brushing projects which all went extremely well. Welcome new customers!

Spring is just around the corner and I will aggressively start looking for customer to sign up for parking lot sweeping. It will have been a very long winter come spring time and lots of salt / sand and debris will be left over in parking lots across the Twin Cities. CityWide is here to help provide an affordable way to remove all that debris leaving parking lots looking clean and ready to go. Please contact me for a bid.

Its Super Bowl weekend and I couldn’t care less about who wins. Honestly, I’m sick of the Steelers winning Super Bowls and I have family from Wisconsin so it would be nice to see the Packers come out on top but it really doesn’t matter to me. The Wild look like they are making a valiant run at a playoff spot in the NHL. IT would be cool to see them back into the playoffs and make a decent run at the Cup.

Have a great weekend!
