Week in Review: December 23 - 27

Kirsten Engels: Facility Service Manager

Happy end of the year! The fourth quarter has been a very busy one for me. City Wide has had a handful of new account in the south metro, keeping me on my toes! We have one new account in particular that has great potential. The day porter we have there has been doing an excellent job, and we are thrilled to be able to start two at two more of the branches as we start the New Year!
As I approach my seven month anniversary, I am even more comfortable in my role, and confident that I am able to give my customer a single point of contact for all there maintenance needs for their building.

We have been scheduling a lot of carpet cleaning, the holidays have been the perfect time for our clients to be away from the office, and give us a chance to sneak in a work our magic. Strip and wax jobs have also been keeping us busy, as we all know how hard the Minnesota weather can be on VCT.  Viper tooling is a long process and out clients are always amazed at the final product. We have been so lucky to have our service providers pride themselves on their work. One of our clients was able to see the process, and was truly amazed at all the dirt and grime that was being removed. Needless to say the service provider was grinning ear to ear proud.

Christmas came and went extremely fast. I took the 7 hour venture up to Superior and then over Isle. It was so good to see the rest of my family. I hope everyone got to spend some good quality time with their families and loved ones. I can’t believe it is already over. Now, I will have 300 plus days to go shopping for next year. J

I’m looking forward to the New Year!

Week In Review: December 16th - 20th

Tyler DuBord: Facility Service Manager

Brrrrr, it’s been a cold start to the winter this year but fortunately with that came some snow! I personally like the snow as I am a snowmobile fanatic. I live in the north metro and am able to ride right out of my garage onto the snowmobile trails. This past weekend I rode from my house all the way to the cabin up near Hinkley. It was a blast and look forward to the upcoming season. We already have trips planned for after Christmas and again in January and February.

The early winter has also brought a lot of salt and debris into our buildings. Our crews have been working really hard each night trying to vacuum all the salt and keep the white build up away. This can be a tricky scenario for a lot of crews. We have found that a product called Nutra Rinse helps with the situation by reacting with the salt in a way that prevents streaks from appearing on the floor after a good mop. Occasionally, we need to rinse with hot water to perform a final clean in the higher traffic areas to prevent this. Overall, with the tough cold and snow we’ve already had this year, the crews have been doing a great job!

Here come the holidays and with that comes the company party. This year we’ll be at ProKart in Burnsville for some good racing amongst colleagues. With that said, the best racer will unfortunately be sidelined this year due to a back injury. I won’t say who that person is but I’ve seen him before and he’s pretty fast. His absence should help even out the competition for the rest of the field. Jarrad, being one of the slower racers, should have a much better shot at making the podium this year. With some words of encouragement and a detailed instructional from said “injured racer” he may just have a shot at winning. Only time will tell.

Happy Holidays to everyone out there!

Week In Review: December 9th - 13th

Mitch Brunette: Director of Operations

The cold came incredibly quickly this year!  I can’t say I would complain one bit about the difficult two weeks of weather we’ve had.  As an avid ice-fisherman, I am glad to see the lakes frozen with double digit inches of ice that I can drill holes in on the weekends!

We’ve had busy 4th quarter here in the operations side helping onboard new clients that the sales team has delivered.  There have been several clients that we have picked up that needed their janitorial locked down for them daily along with a single point of contact for all of their carpets, windows, floor waxing and consumable supply needs, that we have been able to solve for them.

Kirsten E. has been incredibly busy in the south metro working on some daytime cleaning that has begun, that required her to be on site helping guide the crews through the customers expectations at 6am in Minneapolis.  That group is off to a great start and the client is very appreciative of the efforts we’ve had out the gates for them.

We wrapped up scrub and wax/traffic area carpet cleaning for 17 medical clinics here in town that we service between October and November and that was a great project to get done prior to the winter months! They are prepped and ready for the beating that Minnesota winters are sure to deliver!

I’m excited for Jarrad to come back next week and share some learning and knowledge from an advanced training that we sent him down to in Kansas City.  Several of our operating cities send a standout FSM down to collaborate with each other and learn best practices from their peers, and some of our higher level territory support we receive from our corporate office.  Much appreciated that he took the time to go down there and pick up some new ideas and tips/tricks and look forward to putting it into practice here in Minnesota!

2013 has been very good to me and I have to thank the operations team that has supported me here in my new role!  A huge thanks goes out to Tyler D, Jarrad, Kirsten E, Steve R, Mike, and Steve M for their support this year and their efforts to our new goals for next year!

Additionally, our operation could not be nearly as successful without the support of our Admin crew lead by Brian, and heavily supported by Kelly (now out with a cute little one), and our newest addition, Kirsten Lund, who has transitioned well into her position here! Thank You!

I am looking forward to our Holiday Party with everyone next week for a chance to relax a bit before the craziness of the holidays and new year contracts begin!

Have a safe and happy Holiday everyone, and thank you for the support!

Week in Review: December 2nd - 6th

Kirsten Lund: Sales and Operations Assistant

Well, after being with City Wide for three months, I think it’s time I let you know how things are going at the office!

Recently, Kelly started her maternity leave. I’m not sure if “leave” if the appropriate term, being that a day later she was back in the office, dropping off some goods. That being said, William Henry Mansfield was born yesterday at 4:19pm. weighing in at 8 pounds 2 ounces, and 20.5 inches long. Congratulations to the Mansfield's! We couldn't be happier for you!

Thus being an office manager down, I am the busiest I have been since starting. I have been very fortunate this past week to have Brian in the office to work next to. We are very happy to be starting a few new accounts on Monday, and can hardly wait to see what the New Year will bring.
